General Info

Matthew’s Pizza, located at 3131 Eastern Ave, Baltimore, MD 21224, has earned a legendary reputation as one of the city’s most beloved pizzerias. This spot stands out not only for its long history but also for the consistency and quality that keeps locals and visitors coming back time and time again. Walk through the doors and you’ll find an inviting neighborhood atmosphere, where families, friends, and pizza enthusiasts gather to enjoy pies that many call among the very best in Baltimore.

What sets Matthew’s apart is its signature crust. Unlike the standard thin-crust style you might expect elsewhere, Matthew’s offers a semi–deep dish base that balances crispiness with a hearty bite. It’s the perfect foundation for their generous toppings and layers of cheese, which are carefully portioned for a satisfying flavor profile. Many guests rave about the Three Cheese Pizza, where the richness of the blend shines against the perfectly baked crust. Classics like the Margherita and specialty pies such as the Popeye highlight the kitchen’s ability to craft both traditional and creative options without losing authenticity.

For first-time visitors, the experience is often unforgettable. Even on busy evenings when the dining room is packed, the staff manages to provide warm, attentive service. A short wait only adds to the anticipation, and once the pizza arrives, it rarely disappoints. Fresh ingredients, flavorful sauces, and cheese that melts into every bite show how much care is put into each pie that leaves the oven. This level of consistency explains why so many customers note that Matthew’s has remained a trusted favorite over the years.

Beyond the food itself, the restaurant reflects the charm of a true Baltimore institution. The pricing is fair, making it accessible for both casual dinners and larger gatherings. While the menu offers beverages and sides, the star of the show remains the pizza — the reason why so many call it a “must-visit” for anyone serious about great food in the city.

What customers say?

“ If you want crab pie..aka crab pizza... head here!!! The BEST I've tasted! Real back fin crab meat, so it's Market price, but again, worth every penny!! Yup, I had a slice before posting and I can't say enough! The restaurant is small, pizza takes about 25 minutes to make, but it's well worth the wait!! ”

“ The Myth, The Legend, and Totally Worth It We finally stopped into Matthew's Pizza around 5:30 p.m. on a Friday — the place was packed, which we took as a good sign. After a short 20-minute wait, we got our pizza, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Easily one of the top three best pizzas I’ve ever had. The crust was perfectly baked, the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, and the cheese was rich and flavorful , you can tell they take pride in every pie that leaves their oven. If you're a true pizza lover, this spot is a must-visit. Highly recommend. ”

“ Such a great vibe here. The pizza was great (tried the barbecue, the Roman and the grated). Phenomenal. Basement bar was chill, small and inviting. Cheap beer too which was refreshing. Definitely going back to try other pizzas and watch a game. If You haven't been it's a must. Thank me later. ”

“ I've been coming here ever since I grew up. It hasn't changed one bit, so I walk in and get hit with great feelings of nostalgia. Another thing that is still the same is the pizza and house salad. It is so good! This is my go-to pizza spot in Baltimore, and will continue to come for life. ”

“ I've been to Matthew's a handful of times. Each visit has been very consistent. I've ordered the margherita, 3 cheese, and popeye. All three have been really good, with the 3 cheese being my favorite. The crust is absolutely old of the stars. I'd call it a semi- deep dish crust that has a nice crisp. There's a lot of cheese and the ratio to other toppings is good. I would say the most underwhelming item I've ordered is the iced tea, but that's not a big deal. The service has been good and the prices I think are fair. Matthew's is certainly one of the better pizzerias in Baltimore City. It's different than your average pizza parlor so if you go in expecting that you're expectations may not be met. Matthew's is a solid spot! ”
